2009 Awards Dinner

The Baltimore Social Action Awards were initiated by First Unitarian Church in 2009 to Celebrate Beacons of Hope in Baltimore and the World.

The William Ellery Channing Award is presented annually to a Unitarian Universalist who has lived his/her life in a way that embodies the Seven UU Principles and made a significant contribution to the well-being of humankind and our planet over an extended period of time. The 2009 recipient was legendary singer and activist Pete Seeger. Grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger accepted the award on his behalf.

The Enoch Pratt Community Awards honor organizations and individuals whose work in Baltimore or the surrounding area aligns with one or more of the Seven Principles. The 2009 award recipients were:

  • Dr. Larry Egbert, peace and social justice activist
